When we think of an “usher” we often think of those who work in movie theaters and show us to our seats. Ushers in church also perform this function, but they do a lot more. An important role of the usher in church is to welcome everyone who comes in the door, making the church member or visitor feel welcome, and helping to make sure that they have what they need for the service – a service bulletin, a copy of the readings, or – for those in need of hearing assisted devices – a wireless hearing enhancer which can be borrowed for the service. Ushers also keep a count of those attending to assist the parish with its recordkeeping.
If you are interested in becoming an usher at St. Francis’ please contact the Rector.
