Over the years, St. Francis’ has offered many opportunities for honoring the holy season of Lent.
On Wednesdays in Lent, we gather for the Compline evening service, a light meal, and a program. Some of the programs in the past have been more service oriented such as making soap for clients to use at St. Martin’s Hospitality Center or dresses for children in Haiti, while others have been more inwardly focused, like decorating your own votive candle to be used at home during Lent.
During many Lents, we have offered a half-day Quiet Day. The Quiet Day has taken a variety of forms, including a more traditional afternoon of talks and times for reflection; a more experiential gathering that focused on the experience of the Gospel through the visual, through touch, and through smell; and a more physical expression, combining yoga, meditation, and movement.
Over the last few years, parishioners have written meditations that cover all of the days of Lent. The meditations, accompanied by photographic images, have been available on our website and our Facebook page. The Facebook iteration enabled followers to interact, thus expanding the content of each day’s post.
